Xavier Tebas has announced that artificial intelligence will be applied to evaluate the performance of referees in Spanish football starting next season.
Idman.Biz reports that he spoke about this in a statement to the newspaper "Marca".
"We will implement artificial intelligence in refereeing. There will be two main directions. The first is the evaluation of referees' performance. After each game, the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) uses observers who evaluate various aspects. We are talking about 30 different criteria. Currently, this is done by people; there are 30 observers for 20 different referees. Through artificial intelligence, we are creating a tool so that at least 40 percent of the decisions are made objectively with the help of artificial intelligence. Systems and algorithms are formed based on all matches. Artificial intelligence will analyze everything and show in which moments the referee made the right decision. We are making the process more objective.
In addition, this system will also be related to referee appointments. Through artificial intelligence, the committee will be presented with three referee candidates for the game. I believe in human intelligence, but there are moments where artificial intelligence should help," Tebas said in his statement.
