Alvaro Arbeloa, the head coach of the Spanish "Real" team, revealed an interesting fact about his players after the confident victory (3:0) over "Manchester City" in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League.
Idman.Biz reports that the experienced specialist told his players about the famous 1993 film "Groundhog Day", but no one knew about this screen work, and he met this situation with laughter.
"I asked them if they had watched this movie, but no one knew. This means that I am already very old. Asensio (the team's young player Raul Asensio - ed.) told me that the film was made 10 years before he was born. I just want them to believe in their strength and be a good team," said the head coach.
The coach said that there were serious conversations within the team after the defeat to Getafe and the players should know exactly what they want to do on the field. Hoping that the game with Manchester City will be a turning point, Arbeloa also touched upon the upcoming Elche match:
"Now is the time to rest. I hope that on Saturday we will go to the field against Elche with the same determination. The opponent will put all their strength, and we must have a plan and a collective mindset."
It should be noted that the reason for Arbeloa's reference to the movie "Groundhog Day" is its theme. In the film, the main character wakes up every morning to the same day (February 2 - Groundhog Day) and is forced to experience the same events over and over again. Arbeloa probably cited this example, referring to the team's repetition of the same mistakes or the inability to get out of a certain cycle.
However, the young football players' ignorance of this classic comedy-fantasy film both surprised Arbeloa and made him feel "old".
