The "Victory" chess tournament was held among higher education institutions with the support of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK), the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers (ETİHİRK), the Association of Sports Organizations of Azerbaijan Trade Unions, and the joint organization of the Youth Volunteer Student Sports Society.
"Report" reports that the aim of the tournament is to strengthen the student sports movement, create an environment of mutual cooperation between higher education institutions, develop strategic thinking and teamwork skills in young people, and strengthen national pride and patriotism in connection with Victory Day.
At the opening ceremony of the event held at the Baku Sports Palace, the National Anthem was played, and the dear memory of our martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Musa Mirzayev, Deputy Chairman of AHIK, Elnur Aliyev, Head of Department of the Ministry of Science and Education, Aydin Mammadov, Sector Manager of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and other speakers talked about the state's care for the development of sports in our country, the successful implementation of youth policy, and emphasized that such events make an important contribution to the intellectual development of young people and the formation of team skills, and wished the participants success.
Then, Fikret Sideifzade, an international referee, introduced the participants to the rules of the tournament and the competition started.
A total of 28 teams from 14 higher education institutions, including men and women separately, participated in the competition. The tournament was held in 7 rounds according to the Swiss system, based on Rapid chess rules.
According to the results of the competition, among women, the 1st place was taken by the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, the 2nd place was taken by the Azerbaijan University of Languages, and the 3rd place was taken by the teams of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. Among men, the 1st place was won by the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, the 2nd place was won by the Baku Higher Oil School, and the 3rd place was won by the Baku State University teams.
The winning teams were awarded cups, medals, honorary diplomas, and gifts.
