The "Shirvan Open 2025" international chess festival has kicked off.
Idman.Biz reports that more than 240 chess players from 8 countries are participating in the festival organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Shirvan City Olympic Sports Complex, sponsored by SOCAR, and partnered by "Sirab".
At the opening ceremony of the competition, the head of the Shirvan City Executive Authority Ilgar Abbasov and the vice-president of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation Faig Hasanov wished the chess players success.
Chess players compete in groups A and B at the festival. Competitions in both groups are organized according to the Swiss system in 9 rounds. The total prize fund of the festival is 22,650 AZN. The winner of group A will win 5100 AZN, and the chess player who takes first place in group B will win 1000 AZN.
The festival also includes rapid and blitz tournaments.
It should be noted that the festival is held within the framework of the "Chess Tour Azerbaijan" project of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation. This is the 8th and final festival of the project for this year. The festival will end on November 26.
