The Azerbaijan national chess team will try to perform well at the European Championship to be held in Batumi, Georgia.
The leading member of the team, Shahriyar Mammadyarov, told Report about this.
He shared his impressions about the competition, which will start on October 5:
"Over the years, chess has become a little more difficult and is now very age-dependent. After a certain time, it is difficult to compete with young people. After many years, our national team will not go to the European Championship as a rating favorite. This is a little easier for us. Because we always had a big burden and everyone expected only the championship from us."
Sh. Mammadyarov said that the team consists of both young people and experienced grandmasters:
"I have been in the national team for more than 24 years. I hope we will perform well. Azerbaijan has been the European champion three times. This is a great result. We will try to perform well. Every chess player will do their best for this."
It should be noted that the European Championship will last until October 15.
