The "Grenke Chess" festival has started in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Idman.biz reports that the festival program includes the "Grenke Chess Open" and "Freestyle Chess Open" competitions, in which more than 2000 chess players, including 130 grandmasters, have registered.
Azerbaijani chess player Shahriyar Mammadyarov had a successful start to the "Freestyle Chess Open". He defeated local athlete Sebastian Laemmel.
Mahammad Muradli, competing in the "Grenke Chess Open", checkmated local athlete Gergely Mann. Eltaj Safarli faces Gabriel Fernandes (Switzerland).
