Azerbaijani chess player Rauf Mammadov takes 10th place at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship held in Doha, Qatar. Sport24.az reports that after nine rounds in the men's tournament, our chess player scored 6.5 points and currently has the best result among our representatives in the overall standings.
In the women's tournament, after eight rounds, Gunay Mammadzada shows the best result among Azerbaijani chess players, taking 21st place with 5.5 points.
It should be noted that in total, 17 chess players represent our country at the world championship. Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Rajabov, Eltaj Safarli, Rauf Mammadov, Nijat Abasov, Mahammad Muradli, Khagan Ahmad, Riad Samadov and Murad Ibrahimli compete in the men's tournament. In the women's competition, Gunay Mammadzada, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Gulnar Mammadova, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Zeynab Mammadyarova, Turkan Mammadyarova and Malak Ismayil participate.
The World Championship in Doha will last until December 30, and the total prize fund of the tournament is 1 million US dollars.
