Azerbaijani chess player Rauf Mammadov is in 10th place at the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship held in Doha (Qatar).
İdman.Biz reports that after nine rounds in the men's tournament, the Azerbaijani chess player scored 6.5 points and is currently the country's best representative in the overall standings.
In the women's tournament, after eight rounds, Gunay Mammadzada shows the best result among Azerbaijani chess players, taking 21st place with 5.5 points.
In total, 17 chess players represent Azerbaijan at the world championship. Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Rajabov, Eltaj Safarli, Rauf Mammadov, Nijat Abasov, Muhammad Muradli, Khagan Ahmad, Riad Samadov and Murad Ibrahimli are competing in the men's tournament. In the women's competition, Gunay Mammadzada, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Gulnar Mammadova, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Zeynep Mammadyarova, Turkan Mammadyarova and Malak Ismail participate.
The World Championship in Doha will last until December 30, and the total prize fund of the tournament is 1 million US dollars.
