The Azerbaijan Chess Championship among men and women will be held jointly by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The competition will be held in Baku from February 6 to 22.
Idman.Biz reports that 30 chess players will compete among men and 16 among women in the championship. The competition will be organized according to the Olympic system and according to FIDE game rules.
As in the previous year, the leading chess players of the country will participate in this year's Azerbaijan Championship. Shahriyar Mammadyarov, the world champion in rapid and among 20-year-olds, three-time European champion in teams, Rauf Mammadov, six-time Azerbaijan champion and three-time European champion in teams, and Eltaj Safarli, European champion as part of the national team, will compete for the championship in the men's competition. In the women's competition, the last Azerbaijan champion Gunay Mammadzada, the winner of the individual European Championship Ulviyya Fataliyeva, the world champion among 20-year-olds Govhar Beydullayeva and other strong chess players will participate.
The total prize fund of the Azerbaijan Championship is 92,000 manats. 62,000 manats of this amount were allocated to the men's competition, and 30,000 manats to the women's competition.
It should be noted that the opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship will be held on February 6.
