The "Ganja Open" Chess Festival, organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and the Ganja City Executive Power, sponsored by "SOCAR" and "Papatya Park Premium," and partnered by "Bayaz" Chess Club and "Sirab," has concluded.
Idman.Biz reports that the closing ceremony was attended by the Head of the Ganja City Executive Power, Niyazi Bayramov, the First Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Faig Hasanov, and other officials.
In the A group of the tournament, which was attended by more than 300 chess players from 12 countries, Leon Mendonca (India) took first place with 7 points.
In the B group, Emil Mehdaliyev surpassed all his rivals by scoring 8 points. Amin Gurbanov and Alisafa Zeynalov, who scored 7.5 points each, shared the 2nd-3rd places.
In the rapid competition, Azerbaijani chess player Khazar Babazadeh won, and in the blitz tournament, the representative of Uzbekistan, Muhammadzohid Suyarov, became the winner.
Our representative, Tunar Davudov, scored his first International Master point.
The total prize fund of the festival was 41,200 AZN. The winner of group A received 10,000 AZN, and the chess player who took first place in group B received a cash prize of 1,100 AZN.
It should be noted that the festival was held within the framework of the "Chess Tour Azerbaijan" project of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation.
