FIDE has announced the list of chess players who have qualified for the "Grand Swiss" tournament, a part of the FIDE World Championship cycle. Sport24.az reports that four Azerbaijani chess players will also participate in this competition, which will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
In the open category, Shahriyar Mamedyarov, Rauf Mammadov, and Eltaj Safarli will compete, while Gunay Mammadzada will compete in the women's category. In addition, Govhar Beydullayeva is listed as a reserve participant.
The participants of the tournament were determined based on rating. The final list will be confirmed after the places allocated to continents, players nominated by the FIDE president, and chess players invited by the organizers have been determined.
It should be noted that the chess players who take the first two places in the open and women's competitions, which will be held on September 3-16, will qualify for the Candidates Tournament.
