FIDE has approved the new World Chess Championship.
Idman.Biz reports that "Norway Chess" will organize the event.
The tournament, called "Total Chess World Championship Tour," will consist of four stages in different cities around the world.
The competition will determine the winners in three disciplines: classical chess, blitz, and rapid. The best player across all stages will win the FIDE World Champion title overall.
The guaranteed prize fund for the World Championship will be $2.7 million per year - $750,000 for each of the first three tournaments and $450,000 for the final.
A one-stage pilot tournament is planned for the fall of 2026, with the first full championship scheduled for 2027.
