"President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev's support for chess is undeniable. Successes are achieved as a result of the attention and care shown to athletes." Sport24.az reports that this was stated by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov at an event dedicated to the results of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation in 2025.
He said that chess players have achieved great success during the year:
"The state's support for chess and sports is great. We are witnessing so many great results. Mahir Mammadov gave a comprehensive report. Everything starts from here. First of all, I thank the head of the organization. We have traditions in this sport. It is important to preserve it. It is not an easy task. Winning a silver medal at the Women's World Championship is a great achievement. Chess lovers could not accept the men's silver medal at the European Championship. They were expecting a gold medal. This also shows how much chess has developed in our country. I think that in the coming years we will also win medals at the Chess Olympiad."
