A chess tournament among media representatives was held on July 22 - on the occasion of National Press Day, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the Azerbaijan Chess Federation.
Idman.biz reports that 21 media representatives participated in the competition held at the Republican Chess Center.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Agshin Farajov, head of the sector of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Elshan Mammadov, director of the Republican Chess Center, and sports journalist Sanan Shafizada congratulated media representatives on the 150th anniversary of the National Press and wished them success in their work.
According to the regulations, in the competition held in groups "A" and "B", 5 minutes were allotted for each game, with an additional 5 seconds for each move. The first three participants in each group were awarded cash prizes and valuable gifts. In group "B", Kamran Haji and Sarkhan Musali shared 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. Ilkin Khalilov scored 8 points in 9 games and took 1st place in group "B".
In group "A", Ilkin Vidadioğlu took third place. Siyavush Aliyev, who was half a point behind the leader, finished the competition in second place. Alikhan Babayev, who scored 8.5 points in 10 rounds, won the title of winner in group "A".
At the closing ceremony, Elshan Mammadov, director of the Republican Chess Center, was presented with a letter of appreciation for his support in organizing the competition.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan Chess Federation traditionally organizes chess competitions among journalists every year. This tournament was the seventh competition.
