The Azerbaijani men's chess team could become European champions for the fourth time in its history today.
According to "Report", the team consisting of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Rauf Mammadov, Aydin Suleymanli, Mahammad Muradli, and Eltaj Safarli will face Serbia in the 9th round of the continental championship held in Batumi, Georgia.
After 8 rounds, the team shares the lead with the Ukrainian national team with 13 points. If the team wins the last round, it can secure its fourth championship.
It is worth recalling that the Azerbaijani men's national team became European champions in 2009, 2013 and 2017.
The women's team will meet with Poland today. The team, which includes Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Govhar Beydullayeva, Gulnar Mammadova, Khanim Balajayeva and Ayan Allahverdiyeva, is sixth with 10 points. The team has lost its chance to win a medal.
