Azerbaijani junior chess players have won three medals at the European Championship held in Budva, Montenegro.
Idman.Biz reports that our representative Khagan Ahmad, in the category of 14-year-old boys, took first place with 7.5 points.
After 9 rounds, two chess players had the same score. According to additional coefficients, Khagan Ahmad surpassed Armenian chess player Tigran Hambardzumyan, whom he defeated in the 6th round of the competition, and was awarded first place among 116 chess players and won the title of European champion.
In the competition for 10-year-old girls, Mehriban Ahmadli scored 7.5 points in 9 rounds and was awarded a silver medal. In the championship for 16-year-old girls, Maryam Aghaverdiyeva won a bronze medal at the European Championship with 7 points in 9 games.
Two more of our chess players finished the prestigious competition in the top five. Rustam Rustamov in the competition for 16-year-old boys, and Kenan Babasoy in the competition for 8-year-old boys shared 2nd-5th places in the end.
Winning one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, the Azerbaijani team ranked 5th among 48 countries in the team score.
At the closing ceremony of the competition, medals, cups, and diplomas were awarded to the winners and awardees. In honor of Khagan Ahmad, who won a gold medal in the competition for 14-year-old boys, the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played in Montenegro.
It should be noted that 1169 chess players from 48 countries competed in the tournament.
