The final round matches of the European Team Chess Championship, held in Batumi, Georgia, have been played.
In the 9th round, the Azerbaijani men's chess team, one of the leaders of the continental championship, experienced its first defeat in the championship. The team consisting of Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Rauf Mammadov, Aydin Suleymanli, Mahammad Muradli, and Eltaj Safarli lost to Serbia 1-3. In the reporting round, the Ukrainian team defeated England 2.5-1.5.
In the end, the Ukrainian team with 15 points became the champion of the European Championship. The Azerbaijani team, scoring 13 points, finished the competition in second place and was awarded the silver medal. Serbian chess players were content with the bronze medal.
