After the victory over the Armenian national team, the Azerbaijani men's national chess team is currently in the top three at the European Team Championship held in Batumi, Georgia.
Idman.Biz reminds that the day before, both our men's and women's teams defeated Armenia with scores of 2.5:1.5 and 3:1, respectively. Shahriyar Mammadyarov won among men, while Ulviyya Fataliyeva and Gulnar Mammadova distinguished themselves among women.
Thanks to this victory, Azerbaijani chess players added nine points to their score and rose to the third place in the tournament table, one point ahead of the group of teams following them. The leadership belongs to the Ukrainian and Dutch teams with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
October 11, Saturday, is the only day of rest in the continental championship. On Sunday, in the seventh round, our men's team will face Hungary, which has a strong squad. This team includes leading grandmaster Richard Rapport, experienced chess player Peter Leko, and nationalized Russian Sanan Sjugirov.
The Azerbaijani women's national chess team also rose to sixth place with 8 points after the victory over Armenia. The Polish team confidently leads the tournament table with 12 points. The German, French, and Ukrainian teams, which are 3 points behind them, share the next places.
In the seventh round, Azerbaijani chess players will face one of the rating favorites of the European Championship - the Georgian national team. In total, it is planned to hold nine rounds in the championship.
