The international chess tournament "Grand Swiss" has started in Samarkand (Uzbekistan).
Idman.biz reports that Azerbaijan is represented in the competition by Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Rauf Mammadov, Aydin Suleymanli, Mahammad Muradli, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Govhar Beydullayeva, and Khanim Balajayeva.
In the opening round, only Aydin Suleymanli and Ulviyya Fataliyeva won from our representatives, the remaining Azerbaijani representatives finished their games in a draw. Shahriyar Mammadyarov drew with Bulgarian Ivan Cheparinov playing with white pieces.
172 chess players are participating in the tournament with a total prize fund of 855 thousand dollars.
