The competition in the Azerbaijan First League in chess has started.

It was reported that Mahir Mammadov, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Vice President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), who spoke at the opening ceremony of the competition held at the Republican Chess Center, wished the participants success and noted that the strong ones will also qualify for the Azerbaijan Championship this year.
Then, the chief referee of the competition, Azer Ibrahimov, informed the chess players about the rules.
It should be noted that 40 chess players are competing in the men's competition and 20 in the women's competition.
The competition is held according to FIDE game rules, based on the Swiss system in 9 rounds. The first 9 among men and the first 2 among women in the First League will qualify for the Azerbaijan Championship.
The tournament will end on January 14. The championship prize fund is 10,000 manats.
