The 11th Vugar Hashimov Memorial tournament, dedicated to the memory of the late chess player and European champion Vugar Hashimov, will be held from December 9 to 11. The tournament, organized by the Vugar Hashimov Chess Foundation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, will feature 6 chess players competing in rapid and blitz competitions. Yan Nepomniachtchi (FIDE), Amin Tabatabaei (Iran), Vladimir Fedoseev (Slovenia), Nodirbek Yakubboev (Uzbekistan), Rauf Mammadov, and Aydin Suleymanli will test their strength in 2 rounds.
The 11th Memorial will be hosted by the city of Khankendi.
It should be noted that the Vugar Hashimov Memorial was first held in 2014. Since 2023, the tournament has acquired the status of a qualifying stage for the FIDE World Championship.
