Azerbaijani karate fighter Irina Zaretska (68 kg), who won a silver medal at the World Games held in Chengdu, China, wanted to show that she is among the best in the world.
Idman.biz reports that the experienced athlete made a statement to "Report" about this.
The silver medalist of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games stated that the competition held in China was special for her: "It was my first major tournament after my child was born. I went to the tatami with a purpose. I still wanted to show that I am among the best in the world. The tournament was very intense. In every meeting, I had to concentrate as much as possible and be tactically flexible. I defeated the Chinese representative 2:1, the Egyptian athlete 2:0, the karate fighter from Indonesia 10:0, and my Japanese opponent 11:3. Each fight had its own significance. But everyone saw that I was in shape and that my attitude towards the competition was high. There is no point in paying attention to the defeat in the final. I am a professional in my field. I do my best to raise the Azerbaijani flag all over the world again."
Zaretska spoke about her next goals: "I also want to perform successfully at the CIS Games in Azerbaijan, the VI Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, and the World Championship. Moreover, I am the only representative of Azerbaijan so far who has won a license to the World Championship. This creates a special responsibility for me. It also gives additional motivation. I am back, this is the beginning of a new stage in my career."
It should be noted that Irina Zaretska lost the duel with Swiss representative Elena Quirici in the final of the World Games.
