Yusif Agakishiyev (75 kg), an Azerbaijani boxer who faced referee bias at the European Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Zlatibor, Serbia, believes that justice will prevail.
The boxer himself stated this in a statement to "Report".
He said that his points were deducted by the referee in the final, even though he was completely superior to the Serbian boxer:
"I was fighting Viktor Maystrovic, a local boxer, in the final. Although I was winning completely and landing accurate punches, the referee deducted my points. He warned me that I was punching with the inside of my hand. But as can be seen in the videos, that wasn't the case. The opponent didn't even land a single punch on me in the first round. But for some reason, a biased decision was made and the points were given to my Serbian opponent. That's why my coach couldn't stand it, his patience ran out, and he entered the ring. The president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Umar Kremlyov, said in a statement that the referee would be banned from boxing for life. Our federation also sent a letter to the IBA. They watched and saw that I had won the fight. I believe that justice will prevail and the victory will be returned to me. Because I was completely superior to my opponent."
It should be noted that Y. Agakishiyev's championship was taken away in the final match of the European Championship against Serbian Viktor Maystrovic. Stefan Subalevski, the head referee of the fight from North Macedonia, made biased decisions in favor of the opponent, and the Serbian athlete was declared the winner in the prematurely stopped match.
Following a letter of protest addressed to the International Boxing Association by the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation regarding the incident, the president of the organization, Umar Kremlyov, announced on his personal social media account that Stefan Subalevski would be banned from refereeing for life.
