Azerbaijan's men's volleyball club "Xilasedici" defeated Romania's "Styaua" team 4:1 (25:23, 25:17, 15:25, 28:26, 15:13) in the return match of the 1/32 final stage of the "Challenge Cup" in an extremely tense match.
Thus, despite the 0:3 defeat in the first match, "Xilasedici" advanced to the next stage.
Idman.Biz talked to the team's head coach Jalil Jalilov.
The coach shared his impressions of the match:
"It was a real thriller! "Styaua" is a very strong club, the champion of the Balkan countries, a team that has been the national champion many times. But this is sport and anything is possible here. The boys played with all their might, they were practically "dying and resurrecting" on the field and won with the necessary score, and then won the "golden set". Yes, the Romanian club was at least two heads taller than us - that is why this victory is even more valuable. After the first game, we got a good "slap" and the boys did everything possible to rehabilitate themselves in front of the fans. We are very happy that everything worked out and we are looking forward to the game with our next opponent," the head coach said.
It should be noted that in the 1/16 final stage of the "Challenge Cup", our team will face the Belgian club "Lindeman" in playoff games. The first match will be held on December 10 in Baku, and the return match will be held on January 7 in Belgium.
