The reason for the Azerbaijani women's volleyball clubs not participating in the European Cups has been determined.
Idman.biz reports that the federation's president, Shahin Baghirov, made a statement to Telegraf about this.
According to Baghirov, this is due to the level of preparation of the teams: "We aim to be represented in European Cups at the club level in the future. But great preparation must be done for this. Fully reliable and fully sustainable clubs must be created."
Instead, the head of the organization emphasized that the Azerbaijani women's national team will compete in the European Championship in 2026: "Some of the games will be held in Azerbaijan. Our goal is to be well represented in the continental championship, to show good achievements and to pass the group stage."
It should be noted that Azerbaijan was last represented in the Women's Champions League by "Azerreyl" in the 2016/2017 season. In subsequent seasons, there were representatives only in the CEV Cup and the Challenge Cup. In the 2025/2026 season, no club will participate in continental tournaments. The 2026 European Championship will be held in Turkey, Czech Republic, Sweden and Azerbaijan on August 21 - September 6.
