There has been a new appointment to the position of head coach in the Azerbaijan men's volleyball team.
Faiq Orucov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation, told Idman.Biz that Boris Grebennikov, the head coach of the "Azerreyl" club and a French specialist, has been appointed to this position.
"Our employment contract with Farid Jalalov, who has been leading the national team since March 2024, has expired, and we have signed a contract with Boris Grebennikov, the head coach of "Azerreyl"," said the Secretary General of the federation.
Faiq Orucov also clarified the reason why the men's national team, unlike the women's team, will not participate in the Islamic Games, which will start on November 7:
"In this tournament, teams participate based on their volleyball ranking. We will not participate in the competition because we are not among the strongest," he said.
It should be noted that 67-year-old Boris Grebennikov was the captain of the Kazakhstan's "Doroznik" club during his playing career. He moved to France in the 1990s, lived and played there, and worked as a coach in several clubs. Since 2023, he has been the head coach of "Azerreyl".
