Atvars Vilde, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national under-18 beach volleyball team, assessed the team's performance at the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) championship. Sport24.az reports that the Latvian specialist made a statement to "Report" about this.
He spoke about his goals in the tournament: "It was a great tournament and we played a lot of games. Our main goal was to fight for every point. And we did it, which means we can win sets and games. I'm really happy to see how we are developing as a team. That's the most important thing for me. We continue our work and this tournament showed that we are on the right track."
The head coach said that the team needs more experience: "Group games and playoffs are different, now we have to show our best performance in every game. We did it. Our efforts are paying off. We just need more experience and maybe next time we will be in the top 4. Although we beat the second team of Latvia, we lost to the first team."
The head coach, who also leads the U-20 team, especially noted the victory over Armenia in the competition of these teams:
"The victory over Armenia was very nice. Because this was the first victory I won with the Azerbaijani team in an official European tournament. Therefore, it was very important and we had to show our strength."
He also spoke about his future plans: "Azerbaijan will also prepare for the U-18, U-20 and U-22 European Championships. Now is a few days of rest and then we will come back with a refreshed brain."
It should be noted that the U-18 national team led by A. Vilde finished the EEVZA championship in fifth place.
