The poor performance of the "Azeryol" women's handball team in the 1/32 final stage of the European Cup games surprised head coach Aleksandr Revva.
The specialist made a statement about this to "Report".
He shared his thoughts on the two matches they lost to the Austrian team "Union Kornoyburg":
"As a coach, our poor performance in the first game, especially in defense, surprised me a lot. I think the opponent was suitable. We had to beat them. As a team, we prepared for these games, watched video recordings of the opponent's matches. We analyzed their strengths and weaknesses."
The head coach also revealed the main reason for the defeat:
"I think the main reason for the defeat was the team's very weak defense in the second half. Most likely, the fact that the game was late, that is, at 21:00 Baku time, negatively affected the team's performance. Some players looked very weak in the second half. They admitted that they ran on the field as if they were sleepy. I was satisfied with the second meeting, especially the second part of that match. But this was not enough to pass the stage. The team's next plans now include preparations for the VI Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Saudi Arabia in November."
It should be noted that "Azeryol" lost to its opponent in the first match with a score of 26:40, and in the second match with a score of 29:33. Both matches took place away.
