Tense and frightening moments occurred in the fourth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico cycling race held in Italy. Austrian cyclist Michael Gogl was hit by a race motorcycle after falling on the track.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to the publication "Excelsior" that the incident occurred 29 kilometers before the finish line, in wet asphalt conditions.
As Gogl fell to the ground, a motorcycle coming from behind could not avoid him and ran over the athlete. The most scandalous aspect of the incident was that the motorcycle driver continued on his way without stopping. It was reported that Gogl was conscious after the impact.
The winner of the fourth stage, which ended in the city of Martinsicuro, was the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel. He won his third victory of the season by overtaking Giulio Pellizzari and Halland Johannessen in the final sprint.
