For a long time, we have been doing our best to hold world and European championships in Azerbaijan. We also addressed the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) for this. Thanks to our discussions with them, we opened the door to new tournaments.
İdman.biz reports that these words were said by Gunel Badalova, Secretary General of the Winter Sports Federation, in her statement to AZERTAC, while talking about the granting of the right to host the 2027 World Ski Mountaineering Championship to Azerbaijan.
The federation official stated that this is a welcome development: "The competitions will be held among juniors and adults. The World Championship will feature sprint, vertical, individual, team and mixed relay events. We have achieved great success in a short time. In the next two years, we will host a series of races, the World Cup, European and world championships. I think this is a success not only for the federation, but for all of Azerbaijan. We will try to represent our country properly in terms of both organization and other issues."
It should be noted that the World Championship is scheduled to be held from February 28 to March 7, 2027 at the "Shahdag" Tourism Center. Also in 2026, the European Ski Mountaineering Championship and World Cup competitions will be organized.
The European Championship is scheduled to be held on March 4-8, 2026, and the World Cup on March 6-8.
