Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has commented on the current state of the promotion.
Idman.Biz reports that he noted the financial stability of the UFC thanks to its $1.1 billion annual contract with "Paramount", comparing it to the world's leading sports leagues.
"I watched the UFC in a different way six years ago. There were fights that made you wake up early in the morning. There were moments when you felt like you were in a slump. That's one thing. When it comes to business, they signed a seven-year, $1.1 billion contract with "Paramount". This is the most important thing for the promotion, and I had a four-year TV deal.
"When you have a TV deal, you can reach out to sponsors. The UFC has a seven-year deal; they don't need anything else; they will make money anyway. Regardless of whether the event is successful or not, they will get their money. $1.1 billion is a huge amount. Ten years ago, the UFC needed to enter a country, now countries need to host a UFC show.
"They want to attract a brand like the UFC. The UFC has reached the level of the Premier League, NBA, NHL, and Champions League; they are all at the same level. Formula 1 is the same", - Nurmagomedov said.
