Marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich has been disqualified for doping.
İdman.Biz reports that the press service of the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has released information about this.
Prohibited substances were found in the Kenyan athlete's March sample.
The AIU reports that Chepngetich faced a four-year ban, but after she admitted guilt and agreed to cooperate with the investigation, the period of disqualification was reduced to three years.
During the investigation, it became known that Chepngetich had taken medication from her housekeeper without checking the composition. The AIU considered her actions to be negligence equivalent to indirect intent.
The ban will take effect on April 19, 2025.
31-year-old Chepngetich is the 2019 world marathon champion. At the 2024 Chicago Marathon, she broke the world record with 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 57 seconds. She was the first woman to run this distance in under 2:10.
