Azerbaijani representatives achieved high results at the III Turkic States Universiade.
This was stated by Aydın Mammadov, Head of Sector of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in an interview with "Report".
He assessed the performance of the Azerbaijani representatives at the III Turkic States Universiade held in Cholpon-Ata city of Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan:
"This Universiade was held for the third time. It was mainly attended by teams consisting of students. Together with the Azerbaijan Sports Academy, we monitored the level of preparation of the participants. The competitions were held according to the rules of international federations. The teams competed on a round-robin system. Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, members of the Organization of Turkic States, participated in the competition. The mentioned countries were represented in almost all sports. The Azerbaijani volleyball team could not participate in the Universiade because they are preparing for the CIS Games and other competitions".
A.Mammadov said that he believes that Azerbaijani representatives will achieve even greater success in the future:
"The organization was at a high level. We highly appreciate the achievements. We believe that it will be even better in the future. The venues for the next Universiades have already been determined. The competition will be organized in Turkey in 2027 and in Uzbekistan in 2029".
It should be noted that Azerbaijan took first place among countries in terms of overall results at the Universiade. Represented in 5 sports, our country won 9 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals in individual competitions. According to the team results, it took first place in Greco-Roman wrestling, second place in freestyle wrestling, table tennis and futsal, and third place in judo and chess.
