Swiss Luca Gabrilo has been appointed as the head coach of the Azerbaijan national swimming team.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation that the specialist with more than 15 years of experience has previously worked in Switzerland, the USA, Israel, Romania, the Czech Republic, the Philippines, and Australia. Under his leadership, individual athletes and teams have won medals at European and world championships and qualified for the finals at the Olympic Games.
The 44-year-old coach, who started his professional career in Switzerland, worked in various positions in the Swiss Swimming Federation system from 2010-2017 - as team manager, head coach, head of the High Performance Center. He later served as the head coach of the Israeli national team and one of the heads of the delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
L. Gabrilo also worked in the International Swimming League (ISL), during which he was the head coach of the "Team Iron" team. Under his leadership, a team of 36 high-level athletes from different countries of the world competed in the league and achieved a number of successes.
Today, the new head coach was introduced to the members of the national team by the Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation, Ogtay Atayev. ASF advisor Rashad Abdurrahmanov, sports director Pierre Lafontaine and sports manager Mehdi Mammadov attended the meeting with the athletes.
It should be reminded that yesterday, after 12 years of activity, Rashad Abdurrahmanov resigned from the position of head coach of our national team and was appointed to the position of advisor.
