The first day of the taekwondo competitions of the III CIS Games, which started at the "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir, was successful for our national team.
Lent.az reports with reference to Apasport.az that Azerbaijani taekwondo athletes achieved high results in the competitions held in seven weight categories.
Ziya Hasanli (63 kg), Humay Dadashova (46 kg) and Maryam Mammadova (53 kg) won the first three gold medals for our country by defeating their opponents in the final.
In addition to the gold medalists, Eljan Aliyev (74 kg) and Umid Rahimzade (54 kg) also advanced to the final. However, our athletes, who lost in the decisive match, had to settle for a silver medal.
Our taekwondo athletes also won 6 more bronze medals:
men: Tamerlan Yagubov (54 kg), Allahverdi Mammadov and Zeynal Aliyev (both – 87 kg)
women: Salima Guliyeva (46 kg), Nilufer Borci (53 kg), Nargiz Kazimova (62 kg)
Thus, on the first day of the competition, the Azerbaijani taekwondo national team won a total of 11 medals (3 gold, 2 silver, 6 bronze), making a great start to the CIS Games.

Taekwondo athlete Ziya Hasanli (63 kg) won the first gold medal for Azerbaijan at the III CIS Games.
Lent.az reports that the final of the taekwondo tournament was held in the "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir.
Hasanli defeated Russian representative Egor Lakin in the decisive match and became the champion.
This victory went down in history as the first gold medal won at the III CIS Games hosted by Azerbaijan.
