World Championship and Olympic medalist, Italian biathlete Tommaso Giacomel has undergone heart surgery (ablation).
İdman.Biz reports that last week he withdrew from the mass start at the Italian Olympics due to pain in his side.
"He underwent a CT scan, MRI and maximal stress test, all of which were normal. However, an electrophysiological study revealed impaired electrical conduction in the atria, leading to a recommendation for ablation, which has already been successfully performed.
In two weeks he will undergo further planned examinations and, once the results are confirmed, will be able to resume his normal training," said a press release from the Italian Winter Sports Federation.
