Natiq Fazilov in SHOCK from the failure at the CIS Games: INTERVIEW from Khankendi

Archery competitions at the CIS Games were the only sport that did not bring a medal for Azerbaijani athletes.

Idman.biz reports that this was formalized after our women's team lost to the Belarusian national team.

We spoke with the head coach of the team, Natiq Fazilov, to find out the reasons for the team's failure to win medals.

– What happened? Why did we stay without medals?

– Frankly, I can't explain it myself either. I am in shock from what happened! Just a week ago, the same athletes were showing excellent results at the training camp... If they had shown at least 70 percent of the level there, we would have had not one, but several medals.

– What do you think was the reason?

– To be honest, I don't know... I didn't sleep all night, I analyzed. We had planned at least two medals, personally I was expecting three medals. But what can you do, the leader of the team Fatima Huseynli, an athlete I was completely sure of her medal, shot wide of the target at the most important moment! This is just a human factor. After all, she is a silver medalist of the European Championship.

– Maybe the training conditions were not suitable?

– No, I wouldn't say that. Both the training camp and the training sessions went at a high level, the team was provided with all kinds of conditions. I just think that age and psychological factors may have played a role - after all, no one knows what is going on in the minds of teenagers. But this does not justify me or my team. I have nothing more to say...
