"The Gazakh region has been selected as the sports capital of our country for 2026. This choice is not accidental. The Gazakh region has been distinguished by its sports traditions since ancient times, and sports have always developed at a high level here. Our region has produced world and European champions, and has also hosted various prestigious tournaments."
Idman.Biz reports that these words were spoken by Azer Aliyev, an employee and honored coach of the Gazakh Sports Olympic Complex, in a statement to our colleague sent to Gazakh.
Azer Aliyev stated that training in 10 sports is currently conducted at the Gazakh Olympic Sports Complex. Both Olympic and non-Olympic sports are developed here. Young people and teenagers in particular are actively involved in sports at the complex.
"In 2025 alone, the athletes of our complex won a total of 12 medals in the international arena, at world and European championships. These successes cover the youth, junior, and senior categories," A. Aliyev noted.
The speaker continued by saying that extensive landscaping and infrastructure work is currently being carried out in the region in connection with the status of sports capital of 2026. Not only at the Olympic Complex, but also at other sports facilities, all conditions have been created for young people. Approximately 500–600 young people regularly attend training sessions at the complex every month.
"After Gazakh was selected as the Sports Capital in 2026, close cooperation was established with all federations. With the support of the federations, it is planned to organize a number of prestigious competitions in the region. One of them is the national freestyle wrestling championship, which will be held in 15 weight categories. Preparations are being carried out at a high level. All necessary conditions have been created for welcoming guests, accommodation, transportation issues, and the comfort of athletes. Tatami mats and other infrastructure have been prepared in accordance with international standards so that the competitions can be organized at the highest level," the coach emphasized.
