Erik Valnes, the 2022 Beijing Olympics champion and three-time world champion, is in doubt about participating in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Idman.Biz, citing "VG", reports that the Norwegian skier was unable to attend training and a press conference on February 5 due to a cold.
Although Valnes has been included in the main squad for the Norwegian team sprint, his condition is currently uncertain. Norwegian national team coach Arild Monsen did not
hide his concern about the issue:
"This is very sad. Although we try to avoid such a situation, it is not possible to be 100 percent insured. I feel very sorry for him."
Valnes is currently only doing light training and has not yet arrived at the Olympic Village.
It should be noted that Johannes Klebo, Oskar Opstad Vike and Harald Amundsen are in the Norwegian squad. The reserve participant who could replace Erik Valnes is Mattis Stenshagen.
