The process of replacing the damaged medals of Azerbaijani athletes who were among the prize-winners at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games will begin in February 2026.
This was announced to "Report" by Murad Farzaliyev, press secretary of the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee (NOC).
He recalled that the NOC had appealed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the matter earlier this year:
"Various preparatory processes were underway regarding this situation. According to the information provided to us, the process of replacing the medals of our athletes will begin in February 2026."
It should be noted that significant changes have occurred in the medals of 5 out of 7 athletes who won medals at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Apart from Olympic judo champion Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and freestyle wrestling bronze medalist Magomedkhan Magomedov (97 kg), the gold medal of Olympic judo champion Zelim Kotsoev (100 kg), the silver medals of taekwondo practitioner Gashim Magomedov (58 kg) and boxer Alfonso Dominguez (92 kg), and the bronze medals of Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) and freestyle wrestler Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) have lost their quality.
