Idman.Biz reports that these thoughts were expressed by Chingiz Huseynzade, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), at a briefing dedicated to the Day of Physical Culture and Sports.
He recalled that on March 5, 1995, National Leader Heydar Aliyev met with Azerbaijani athletes and presented them with awards. This formed the tradition of awarding Azerbaijani athletes. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved that day as a significant day.
