Members of the French National Assembly have adopted the first reading of a bill relating to the organization of the 2030 Winter Olympics.
According to "Report", this is reflected in the text of the bill published on the website of the French Parliament.
This bill, among other things, provides for the authorization to check the baggage of members of sports delegations in the context of the fight against doping.
One of the changes to existing laws adopted within the framework of the initiative concerns the sports code and in particular article L. 232-18-4, which defines the powers of employees of anti-doping agencies. It is proposed to add a clause allowing specialists to "carry out a visual inspection of the baggage and, with the consent of the owner, thoroughly inspect it."
The French Anti-Doping Agency has called this measure unprecedented on a global scale. Investigators were previously able to search sports facilities or homes as part of an investigation with a judge's permission, but they were not allowed to simply visually inspect baggage.
This measure can only be used within the framework of investigations that are already open in airports, train stations and public roads.
