The World Judo Championship started today in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Sport24.az reports that three Azerbaijani judokas competed on the tatami on the first day of the World Championship. They all finished their performances without medals.
Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg) faced Japanese Ryuju Nagayama in the 1/16 finals. Our judoka suffered a defeat at the start.
Leyla Aliyeva (48 kg) started the fight from the 1/32 finals. She faced Kurbanay Kurbanova (Turkmenistan) and won. Our judoka lost to Laura Martinez (Spain) in the second match.
Konul Aliyeva lost to Maria Laborde (USA) in the 1/32 finals.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team went to the World Championship with 13 judokas (9 men, 4 women) in 10 weight categories. Our team will also compete in the mixed team competition.
