The Judo Grand Prix tournament has started in Linz, Austria.
According to Idman.Biz, three Azerbaijani athletes competed on the tatami on the first day of the competition.
In the 60 kg weight category, Murad Muradli started the tournament by defeating German Maksim Taran. He then defeated Hungarian judoka Csanad Feczko in the 1/8 finals. However, in the quarter-finals, the Azerbaijani judoka lost to Japanese Sei Sato. In the consolation match for the bronze final, Muradli lost to Kazakh Aman Bakitzhan and stopped the fight.
In the 66 kg weight category, Ruslan Pashayev started from the second round. In his first match, he defeated Israeli Eran Fix, then Serbian Matija Jeremic in the 1/8 finals. In the quarter-finals, Pashayev defeated Spaniard Adrian Nieto Chinarro, and in the semi-finals, he defeated another Spanish athlete, David Garcia Torne, to reach the tournament final. In the final, the Azerbaijani judoka will face Brazilian Ronald Lima. Another Azerbaijani athlete, Islam Rahimov, also joined the tournament from the second round in this weight category, but lost to Italian Alessio De Luca in his first match and stopped participating in the tournament.
