The national team won another gold medal at the Grand Slam judo tournament held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Sport24.az reports that Omar Rajabli, who competed in the -81 kg weight category, experienced the joy of winning the championship for the first time in his career in a similar competition.
On the way to the final, our judoka eliminated representatives of Romania, Tajikistan, Japan, and Uzbekistan from the competition, and in the decisive match, he defeated Russian athlete Abdul-Kerim Tasuyev with a complete advantage.
Interestingly, Omar defeated his opponents with the ne-waza osaekomi (holding) technique in 4 out of 5 matches he held during the tournament. This result also went down in history as the first gold medal of the 22-year-old athlete in the World Tour.
It should be reminded that Ahmad Yusifov (-60 kg) won a gold medal and Balabay Agayev (-60 kg) won a silver medal on the first day of the tournament.
Currently, with 3 medals, including 2 gold and 1 silver, Azerbaijan ranks second among 39 countries in the overall medal standings.
