The "Grand Slam" judo tournament has started in Paris, the capital of France.
İdman.Biz reports that on the first day of the prestigious competition, Azerbaijani judokas won 2 medals, 1 gold and 1 bronze.
After the first day of the competition, Azerbaijan ranked second among men and third in the overall team score among 78 countries in the medal standings.
Balabay Agayev, competing in the -60 kg weight category, defeated Ukrainian representative Dilshot Khalmatov in the final and became the winner of this tournament for the third time in his career.
Ruslan Pashayev, who competed in the -66 kg weight category, defeated Italian athlete Valerio Accollini in the last seconds of the bronze medal match with a yuko score and took third place.
Note that tomorrow 5 more judokas will join the competition.

Nazir Talibov, who will compete in the 66 kg category, will face the stronger of the Miguel Gago (Portugal) - Erbol Abasbekov (Kyrgyzstan) pair in the same round. Ruslan Pashayev will compete against the athlete who wins in the Yusuf Nurkovic (Montenegro) - Bence Pongrats (Hungary) duel.
It should be noted that the "Grand Slam" tournament will last until February 8. Azerbaijan is represented by a total of eight judokas in this prestigious competition.
