Azerbaijani judokas Balabay Aghayev (60 kg) and Zelim Tskayev (81 kg) have entered the top five of the world ranking after their successful performances at the Paris Grand Slam series tournament.
Idman.Biz reports that the International Judo Federation (IJF) has announced a new ranking list of the strongest judokas on the planet based on the results of the Paris Grand Slam. At that tournament, Azerbaijani judokas won three medals. Balabay Aghayev (60 kg) became the winner of the tournament, Zelim Tskayev (81 kg) won a silver medal, and Ruslan Pashayev (66 kg) won a bronze medal.
As a result, Balabay Aghayev, who scored 4,090 points, rose five places to fourth place. The Azerbaijani judoka is separated from the Japanese Ryuju Nagayama, who is in third place, by only 80 points, which is considered a minimal difference according to judo standards. In turn, Zelim Tskayev (81 kg) rose three places and took second place in the world ranking with 4,365 points. Russian Timur Arbuzov is the leader in this weight category with 5,855 points. The bronze medal won in Paris also had a positive impact on Ruslan Pashayev. He rose from ninth to seventh place with 3,151 points, strengthening his position in the top ten.
In addition, Olympic champion Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg, 3836 points), who missed the Paris Grand Slam, dropped two places to fourth place. At the same time, Eljan Hajiyev (90 kg, 3246 points) remained in third place, Zelym Kotsoiev (100 kg, 4868 points) retained second place, and Ushangi Kokaouri (over 100 kg, 3726 points) remained in seventh position.
