UEFA first implemented VAR in the 2018/19 season for the Champions League play-off stages. VAR will be used in a total of 1163 matches in UEFA tournaments in the 2024/25 season.
UEFA's research shows that without VAR, an error that could change the game would occur in every 2.4 matches. With VAR, this number is reduced to 16 matches.
