The US Interior Minister, Markweyn Mallin, has decided to keep in force the entry ban on Somali football referee Ömer Artan. According to the Turkish AA news agency, Mallin justified this step as follows:
"We will not allow anyone with a dark past or connections to criminal circles to enter this country. I will not elaborate on why this person was not allowed to enter the country, but there is a reason. Now, the left-wing media claims that this person is a victim because we are against Somalia. No, this is not true".
Note that Artan arrived at Miami International Airport on June 8, but was not allowed to enter the US. The referee was due to officiate matches at the World Championship.
