The 61-year-old specialist has missed several national team matches due to his health. There have been reports that he is suffering from cancer.
It should be noted that Katanec is the most successful coach in the history of the Uzbekistan national team. Under his leadership, the team played 21 official matches and lost only two. Also, the Uzbekistan national team is close to qualifying for the final stage of the World Cup. The national team is currently 2nd in the group with 13 points.
